What is Hypnotherapy? Hypnotherapy is an altered state of awareness that allows access to the subconscious. Effectively it is a trance-like state, in which you as the receiver, are in complete control. For more information on Hypnotherapy, click here.

What does hypnosis feel like? Everyone experiences the hypnotic state in different ways. Most people say they feel deep relaxation as all the tension leaves their body.
How many sessions do I need? This depends on what you are treating. For Stop Smoking, it is a one-off session. With other treatments a minimum of three sessions is advised. During your first appointment, Erika will discuss how many sessions she feels you may need so that you can be sure you are happy with the commitment.
Can anyone be hypnotised? Some people find it easier to relax than others. This is the same for hypnosis; some people are able to go into a trance quickly and more deeply than others. Most people can go into at least a light trance which is the state you need for hypnotherapy to benefit you.
Will I lose control when under hypnosis? You remain in full control during hypnosis. Nobody can be hypnotised against their will. Hypnosis is not about control by the hypnotist, it is about working together so that the client can be empowered to create change in their life.
Could I be left in a hypnotic trance? If at any point you wanted to come out of a trance, you could do so entirely by yourself. As all hypnosis is self-hypnosis there is no possibility for you to be left in a state of trance.
Will I say secret information under hypnosis? You cannot be forced to say or do anything under hypnosis that you don't want to. Remember that you are in complete control the whole time.
How will Erika hypnotise me? Having agreed to work together and having discussed the ways in which we are going to help you, Erika will guide you into a focussed state of mind, usually by using the sound of her voice.
How is hypnotherapy different from other forms of therapy? Unlike counselling and other therapies, hypnotherapy works by bypassing the critical and analytical conscious mind, talking directly to the subconscious mind.

Is hypnotherapy similar to stage hypnotism? Hypnotherapy, unlike stage hypnosis, is strictly there to provide a professional and caring solution for the client, not for entertainment. The hypnotherapist works ethically, is guided by a code, and continues professional development so that they may always give the clients the best treatment available. Click here to read more.
Is hypnosis the same as sleep? This is a common misconception, although hypnotherapy has been described as feeling like the stage just before you fall asleep. Medically this is not actually the case.
Are there any side effects? No, hypnotherapy is a natural experience that is drug-free and has no side effects.
What is NLP? NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. NLP is a set of tools and techniques that use the power of words and imagination to help you change. It works well alongside hypnosis.
What is CBT? CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. CBT is a short-term psychological treatment that focuses on the 'here and now' to help you to feel better. Through talking, you challenge negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Instead of focussing on the causes of your distress or symptoms in the past, it looks for ways to improve your state of mind now.
